Deep Enough to Dream

I Need a Hero

I'm supposed to be in Toronto right now...but due to factors beyond my control, I'm not. Yes, I'm disappointed, but God knows what He is doing--I've already seen several things that make it best that I stayed here.

Sleep, for one. I think I had forgotten what it's like not to be sleep-deprived. Even factoring in a runny nose, a cough, and slight laryngitis, I feel better right now that I have in months.

I have come to a realization that I have been unconsciously trying to avoid for weeks: I am not physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually capable of getting everything done that I have to do before the 4th of May. And that scares me. The only way I am going to live through the next two weeks is with God's miraculous help, because I can't do it. But isn't that true of every moment of my life? I only see it now because I am backed up against a wall, so to speak. I have no other choice but to look for help outside myself. I'm not capable of ANY good thing, even of life itself, on my own. As Paul said, To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me." Not my energy. God's. As Andree Seu says, "Begging God daily is the right place to be." Father, keep me humble. Keep my focus away from MY agaenda and MY responsibilites and MY grades and MY reputation. Let me see You as more valuable than all of this Stuff that I think is so important.

I need a hero
Please dare to find me
Fly to my rescue
And crash through the wall
Announce my freedom
Bring me to my senses
Gather me into your strong arms
And carry me home...safely home

You love me
when I'm anything but lovely
When no one else would want me
Your love holds on

yes, I'm still alive

So I haven't posted in about five months...I haven't dropped off the face of the planet, really!

Half my junior year over, and NO idea where it went. I'm home for Christmas as of two days ago. The last couple months were good but odd. Very good in many ways, stressful on some fronts, and altogether a bit tiring. I am slowly(!) learning how to love, how to be content in God alone, how to trust, how to be a servant leader, and mostly how much nasty black sin is in my heart and how VERY much I have yet to learn. What a beautiful Savior to be so patient with me!

I start back at work tomorrow, same engineering firm I interned at this summer. That will be fun. Though it's going to make this break crazy, trying to fit in everything I need and want to do. I've started to think about Christmas shopping...but that's about it. Oh wait I do have a present for James. He actually saw it in the bag and talked about it for the next five minutes...but never stopped to ask what it was for or what it was doing in my room.

I just finished reading a Dorothy Sayers "Lord Peter Whimsey" murder mystery novel called "Strong Poison." Good book. The answer was predictable (I had it all figured out except the exact murder method halfway through the book), but Ms. Sayers has a tickly sense of humor and it's fun to be reading a book from that time period again. I also checked out two other books from the library before we left on Friday: a Francine Rivers (new author to me, so we'll see about this one) and a collected of P. G. Wodehouse novels. (yes Sharon---you read me right! finally!) I'm going to have to force myself to not start those two until our trip up north for the big Christmas party, otherwise I will have nothing to read then, and will have gotten no work done on the church website.

Yes, I get to learn HTML & CSS for my job that starts in January. hmmm. This is going to be interesting!

What do you want for Christmas? I think I want a hug.

What language shall I borrow
To thank Thee, dearest Friend?
For this Thy dying sorrow,
Thy pity without end?
Oh, make me Thine forever!
And should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never
Outlive my love for Thee

Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4. "Thee, about Thee, for Thy sake." Conf. X 32." from When I Don't Desire God, How to Fight for Joy by John Piper.

2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What can you touch? The printer. Oh, how exciting.

3. What is the last thing you watched on TV? The intro to tonight's new episode of Monk in which he apparently coaches a girl's basketball team after the coach is murdered.

4. Without looking, guess what time it is. 9:40 pm

5. Now look at the clock. What is the actual time? 9:39pm

6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear? The crowd cheering at the basketball game on Monk on TV and my parents laughing; myself typing.

7. When did you last step outside? What were you doing? Almost three hours ago when I got out of the car to come inside.

8. Before you started this survey, what did you look at? my AIM conversation with Sharon and Amy.

9. What are you wearing? Khakis, and my fifty-cent splurge purchse of a striped, collared shirt of the colors cranberry, raspberry, and white. Purrrty.

10. Did you dream last night? Funny, Mr. R. asked me the same question this morning. The answer was that I didn't remember, and that hasn't changed.

11. When did you last laugh? I don't remember exactly, but knowing me, it wasn't very long ago.

12. What is on the walls of the room you are in? Paint, a photo collage, a framed crocheted butterfly, a painted plate, a key rack, a papre towel dispenser, several light switches and electrical outlets,  wallpaper, and other miscellaneous decorative thingers.

13. Seen anything weird lately? Hmm. Sevearl beavers along the side of the highway. Does that count?

15. What is the last film you saw? That's a hard one. I haven't been watching a lot of movies lately. Perhaps it was The Lady Eve when Benjy were here on the 4th. haha.

16. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy? I have to think about that.

17. Tell me something about you that I don't know. I know the difference between pipe that is piggable and pipe that isn't piggable.

18. If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do? Probably something very unwise.

19. Do you like to dance? I would if I knew how. In theory I do.

20. George W Bush: In many ways admirable, in many was imperfect. Salvation does not come from government and no man is infallible.

21. Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her? Ruth. Haven't decided the middle name.

22. Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him? Isn't this funny? I had also already settled on David. Paul is a good name, too. And so is Daniel. (Apparently I like Bible names.)

23. Would you ever consider living abroad? Yes. But not by myself.

24. What do you want God to say to you when you reach the pearly gate? Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into My rest.

25. Four or Five people who must also do this quiz in THEIR journal: I am an extremely indecisive person, so I shall skip this one.
